heal.abstract Inbound visitors are the largest group of tourists to Crete, Greece, representing more than 95% of the total tourist flows. Given the importance of inbound tourism, an understanding of expenditure is vital to business managers and destination marketers. Using the 1999 Exit Survey data, this study investigated the determinants of inbound tourists’ expenditure in Crete. The empirical investigation suggests that there exists a relationship between tourism expenditure and some factors. The analysis of several socio-demographic and trip related variables including nationality, age group, visit period, party size, type of accommodation used, and satisfaction degree were found to significantly contribute to explaining spending level variations (p<0.05). These findings should be useful to tourism marketers for a better understanding of inbound travel consumption behaviour in Crete. en
